I finished last month on the rivers closing date of 14 March following the end of a fantastic season with some brilliant fishing. Life took a very sad twist and I spent the rest of March supporting and being with Julie.

With Zander to 12-07 and Barbel to 15-15 in February I was really looking forward to March, I always take the last week of the season as annual leave and couldn’t wait….

Work and the weather had kept my fishing to three short trips last month but I did manage to keep my season targets with the Barbel on track and make a good start with my winter Zander fishing.

I finished last month with a last chance Barbel day session on New Year’s Eve that kept my season targets on track in literally the last few minutes of the session.

2022 was a difficult year personally, but with a lot of love and support from Julie it was one of my best fishing years to date, let’s hope 2023 is as good.

I finished last month’s piece after another brilliant Trent session and a real red letter month with lots of big Barbel, big Crucians and two bonus 30 plus Carp, what a brilliant months fishing.

December was looking difficult with very little time to fish due to work and family commitments but I was looking forward to the time I could fit in.

My plans for this month came a lot earlier than planned, 3 years too early, and it was all down to Tony Shep, but now I’ve started I will carry on with a few sessions a season and see where it takes me…..

After another month’s fantastic Barbel fishing I started to have a more sustained effort at rolling meat and did manage to catch nine small Barbel towards the end of the month, my intention for September was to really try to master it properly.

Last month’s fishing was a fantastic month with 89 Barbel, 36 of them being doubles with two 16’s, a month that I’ll probably never better….

The test bait from Madbaits, BBB, was continuing to be very successful and consistently catching a lot of fish and with sessions planned in August with the potential for big fish I hoped that would continue.

Last month ended with me back on the rivers chasing my favourite species the Barbel, the 16th went well and that continued with some good fish caught on each session, I had some sessions arranged in July that I was really looking forward too with the potential for some really good fishing and catching up with friends I hadn’t seen through the close season.

With the fishing being so poor the highlight of last month was the Barbel Society Show which was a great day out mixing with friends old and new talking about our favourite species. I planned on a couple more Tench trips before the magical 16th arrived and then I’d be back out on moving water.

I finished off last month having had another 4 pound plus Crucian to bring a lovely end to the Crucian season on Johnsons and started my Spring Trench campaign, and was really hoping to trip up an elusive double.

I finished off last month back on the hunt for Crucians on Johnsons after a brilliant end of season session on the Trent catching some lovely Barbel to 16-03. You may remember I had a fantastic April last year catching the British Record Crucian and I hoped to get somewhere close to that again this April.

I finished last month’s piece on a high with a 15-07, having again only been out for two sessions during the month after suffering a life changing moment with a house fire. I’d got over the shock and was working through the insurance claim process and wanted to end the river season with some success and positivity.

I finished last month’s piece having given the new bait, BBB, its first run out on the Barbel Society section at Sutton and it was a successful session, and I’d got a new fishing car after mine had died. With only two sessions in Dec I hoped I may be able to get out more in Jan to start the New Year with a bang.

I finished last month’s piece having returned from a tough trip to Spain where the weather really had an impact on the fishing but we still managed a few decent Carp and Colin had one big Cat on the final day. My fishing car had died and I was waiting for the good or bad news.
